Hey everyone! I'm back in town and ready to post!
Question 5:
Do you normally receive a stocking? If so, what types of items do you normally receive in it?
As for me...I usually receive some bathroom items like a toothbrush, razors, deodorant and ponytail holders. Also the typical Christmas candy, but my parents always make sure to throw in a Mr. Goodbar because it's my favorite. Also on occasion they've been known to give me some beef jerky.

yay! i'm so glad you're back! i've missed these questions.
So- in my stocking from my parents i usually get some walnuts, a couple clementines and maybe like $10. it's really quite hilarious to see what they'll put in there.
In my stocking from my in-laws i get AWESOME stuff- like burts bees lip balm, dvds, gift cards, bath and body works lotions- stuff like that.
1Oh yeah, it varies every year, but 3 things will appear: A new pair of silk boxers (holiday related), a tube of marzipan, and a large bag M&M chocolate covered peanuts.
2Yay, you're back!
3I'm glad you all missed me! I feel so wanted.
Grandpa...a tube of marzipan???
what on earth for?

4Santa would put little doo-dads like office supplies (I loved playing school or Important Office Person), Scotch tapes, markers, stickers... Always that year's edition of the Lifesaver's Story Book, See's candies, little silly and fun things. My bf taught me a tradition that I had never heard about: putting a piece of fruit in your stocking?! Don't know if he was pulling my leg, but now I get an orange or some piece of fruit every year and it's hilarious to me.
5maybe that's why my mom puts clementines in my stocking....
6So tell us brooke, how did you guys make out with your gambling excursion?
7jenious, i know what you're talking about. My bf also told me about the fruit tradition..of course I was all "Whaaaaa???"

8Well grandpa, the first night we did pretty good, then it all went downhill from there.
Those
roulette tables were NOT our friends. hahaha

9If you must play roulette, go to Europe, there they only have green "0", and no green "00". But you had a blast getting away, I bet. I only bet on sure things BTW
10That's so funny, brookrene! Must be a guy thing. Little girls are so easy to fill stockings for, there was no room for fruit!
11Well, at least you gave it your best shot by playing roulette! So "they" say...
12Oh, I didn't know that about Europe! I've always got to atleast split the zeros. That would save me some $$$!
We did have a really great time though, besides gambling we ate at a nice steakhouse and just generally made the rounds of all the casinos.
I got to tell you though...when we first got there on Sunday we didn't have reservations, so we walked up to the lady and requested a king non-smoking and she said "no, sorry, we only have smoking or a double non-smoking" (which they pull this stuff in vegas all the time, and you just have to be pushy and they'll give you your room eventually)...but this is shreveport on an off-day! so anyway, she wouldn't help us...we went around the corner and called the hotel and what do you know? a king non-smoking was available! so we made a reservation 10 feet away from the hotel registration desk and walked directly back up there. I swear, ridiculous! But it gave us something to laugh about.

13OMG, that was way too funny. What did she say to you when she saw it was you that she just gave the non-smoking king to?
14I think she was pretty much clueless. Her tag did say "In training"

15Haven't done stockings in our house since all us kids were home. So, it's been about 8-10 years.
When we did, we got Christmas candy that my dad would eat whenever we turned around...! My sister and I would get chapstick. My brother would get action figures.
16Brooke did you give her a look of pity when you went back.
Stockings when I was a kid had the lifesaver story box and a droste chocolate fruit (orange i think) that you had to smack on something to break the pieces apart. Little weird things - little toys or a stuffed animal, key chain, barrettes and a candy cane.
I miss my stockings. I am going over to dads to look for it and give it to hubby and tell him to fill it!

As a kid, we'd get candy and other little presents in our stocking.
When I started dating my husband, he introduced me to St. Nick's Day on Dec. 6th. Instead of doing stockings on Christmas Day, St. Nick fills them on the 6th. I got one of my best gifts in my St. Nick's stocking - my engagement ring.
18aww! that's sweet skb!
19We didn't have stockings growing up but my husband and I are starting the tradition.
20I usually get an ornament, candy, Makeup, a gag gift.
I also have stockings for all 3 of my cats and they get special toys and catnip.
21Our stockings still get stuffed
we always get an apple and an orange --- which
stretches the stocking almost to the floor, pretty funny.
Depending on what "Santa" brought us that year, we may get a $100 bill, which is nice
We usually get gift cards to coffee shops, post it notes and other office supplies, and other small doo-dads.
Oh, and a lot of candy! YUM!
22The stocking stuffers you all get are sooo great. The stocking stuffers just sound fun. Makes me so jealous. No stocking here anymore.
23skb9850, was your husband raised in the Eastern rite (Greek, Russian orthodox)? There the gift giving is given Dec, 6, supposedly the time the three wise men came bearing gifts.
24Grandpa, no, he's of Irish decent. Also, there is a large German influence in our area.
25we actually celebrate St. Nicks day on december 6th, the night before all the kids put their shoes out for st nick to fill. Nothing better than coming out and seeing your shoes filled with awesome stuff.
26We didn't have stockings growing up, but I've always done one for my kids & hubby & even our pets. When the kids got old enough, I bought them a stocking and let them decorate it with glitter glue & that's the stocking we hang up. I always stuff their stockings with chocolate and candy canes. I still put little toys in all of their stockings, but now I give the older kids gift cards and cologne or perfume. The girls always get little miniature bottles of nail polish that I wrap and tie the ends with ribbon. It's silly, but they look forward to it.
