I got up this morning to find my upstairs bathroom pipes frozen. Yes, I love the freakin' cold weather. I went to work while I was waiting for the call that the plumber was on his way. Now I'm just waiting for him to show up.
So how is everyone else's Monday?

Its freezing here too!! Maybe not bust your pipes freezing but its darn cold. Typical Monday here cept I'm at work goofing off when I could be at home goofing off with my better half, who only has a few days at home. Other than that, its a beautiful, frigid day!
1I had to wake up to let my dog outside. ***yawn!!***
2I'm going back to bed shortly.
Sorry about the icky weather you guys are having. It's cold here too, but not cold enough to be a real inconvenience or anything.
Cold (for us) and rainy here in Los Angeles. That's two Mondays in a row, practically unheard of.
Here's your surf report for my area: www.surfline.com/surf-report/torrance-beach-haggertys-southern-californi...

The plumber is here and he is going to use his thawing machine on the cold water to see if he can get it unfroze. But to unfreeze the hot water pipe, he will have to cut holes in the wall. I called my husband to see what he wanted to do. He told me to just have him do whatever we need to get things working again.
Charges so far: $560 and rising. I should have been a plumber.
4Super cold in Canada! I think it's like -25OC!!! With windchill it's probably more like -35OC! There was a stupid blizzard this morning that I got to drive to work through. AND there is SO much work! Because no one is here, everyone dumped their work onto us Admins! NOT HAPPY!
5Oh, heavens!
My grandfather (So. IN) converted some of his farmland to a small mobile home park years ago...I think a lot of them use heated wraps on their pipes in the winter. Would something like that help you?

That's a steep bill SKB! Hope it all works out.
It's cold here too! 4 degree wind chill, but it's more like 14-16. That's the coldest it's been here so far. Of course we leave for New Orleans on Wednesday and the forecast for those days at home... 70 degrees!
Wow.
7It's chilly here now, 28 degrees, but by friday it's supposed to be 75!
Oh, and skb, my monday is juuuuust fine.
I've got the week off...perks of working
for a university!
I do have to venture outside today though to hunt down some boxes to ship things in, and we're going to go try to look at a few houses.

8With wind chill we are below 0 here in NYC and covered with snow.
SKB my grandparents used to wrap the pipes to keep them warm. Tell guy with crack to have some holiday cheer and work with you on the price.
My sister is flying on from Phoenix (boy is she in for a shock). So I will be going out later to se here for the second night of Latkes.
Lain I love the surf report with the green pirate flag.

Sam, my husband is in love with latkes, if you want to send a good recipe my way I'll love you forever and like you for always.
10frozen pipes upstairs????? Don't tell me someone was so ignorant that they ran pipes up an outside wall. if that is the case, you will have a long time problem. When the temperatures go down in the future you will have to leave the faucets open just enough so that you get a slow pour, just more then an actual drip. That should prevent freezing. also if you have a cabinet under your sink, if you but a square hole, with eider a door, or removable panel, you can use your hair dryer to shoot hot air up the pipe wall, every hour or two, to help prevent freezing. The other better solutions run into too much money
11I'm sorry to hear about your pipes sis. I hope everything works out. It's -6 here and I'm still sick. I very much want to go home and try to sleep. Can't though, because today is my last day at work for the year.
12Aw, Dave, try to feel better.

Dave lots of chicken soup!
Sy I left the recipe at dad's I will get it tonight and post it for you. It requires grating A LOT of potatoes (so I hope hubby does not mind some skin and blood in the latkes (don't tell him - he will never know)

Hahah! I know, the grating part is the worst. The things I'll do for love.
I'm really excited about your recipe. My latkes always taste good but don't stick together they way I want them too and/or harden enough.
15Do you add some flour or matzo meal to the mix?
16***************
"Enjoy life, it's ungrateful not to." - Ronald Reagan
Can you use the pregrated potatos?
17yes a little. And Tony's!
18(a little flour)
19Haus, I don't see why not? When I first read they question I though it said pregnated (pregnant potatoes?)
Sy for around 2lbs of russet potatoes you need about 1/2 cup and around 2 large eggs.

I know its monday, AND a Holiday week because everyone is calling today to get prescriptions filled so they can go away for the week AND OR they have already gone away and FORGOT their Meds and need us to call in an authorization (which is a PAIN) who leaves town with a child with special needs and not takes their meds?

Dave, sorry you are still feeling sick. I hope you get to feeling better soon.
23It's Monday. It's cold. There is almost two feet of snow outside. I think mother nature hates New York and me because last weekend I was without power thanks to the ice storm and this weekend we were dumped on with snow.
Okay winter, I'm done now. Let's move on to summer, k?
24Melizzle, nah, it's not you.
It's New York.
...waiting for Sam to come through and issue a smackdown...

Sorry about your pipes! It's cold here too. High of 36. I am off today until January 5th. My toilet is behaving magically, where sometimes it decides to refill and sometimes not. And when it doesn't refill on it's own, I have to take the lid off and jiggle the float. Then I have to wait for it to refill to flush the toilet, which sometimes I forget and I'll come back later and find a surprise. Annoying! I hope I don't do that when I have company over!
26I think I must be nuts because it got up to a whopping 5 below today and I wore my sweatshirt and mittens out there. The neighbor kids were playing outside in their lighter weight gear and dogs stayed out for more than ten minutes.
I have off of school until 1/12/09. Excitingggggggg.
27I put on an undershirt for the first time in over a year today Brrrrr
28wait, who, what where
smack down?

I love latkes and Matzo ball soup. I eat Matzo ball soup ALL THE TIME!
30latkes and applesauce
31Mom's Latkes:
6 med. potatoes
1 small onion
2 eggs - beaten
3 tbs. flour
some pepper (approx .25 tsp)
1 tsp salt
.5 tsp baking powder
Peel & grate potatoes and onion. Let stand 10 minutes for liquid to rise to top. Drain. Stir in eggs and add other ingredients. Drop by spoonfuls into a HOT greased (olive oil) skillet. Brown on both sides. Add oil as necessary.
Remove from pan and put on paper towels to absorb extra grease.
Serve with apple sauce (my favorite) or sour cream
quick cheat method: cut up potatoes and onion and put in food processor and puree, follow rest of recipe. More like matzo meal pancakes.
if you are multiplying this recipe make in batches.

Did someone ask for Spritz cookies (dutch) I found a cookie cook book from 1939 that has them in it (this book actually has the term fat in it- not shortening)

So sorry about the pipes.
I LOVE Latkes!! Thanks for the recipe!
34
Thanks Sam! Hubby will be so happy!
35btw, we do sour cream! He's Ukrainian, what do you expect?
36Latkes... yummmy!
37Sy, what no caviar?
Remember to make sure you have band aids if you are hand grating!
38***************
"Enjoy life, it's ungrateful not to." - Ronald Reagan
Ah, caviar. You eat that with butter on a piece of bread.
39spoiled!

nope case de syako.
43case = casa
DOH!
44eww caviar on bread with butter? I always had it on water crackers.
45I think a bunch of us will be moving in after the holidays. I don't think we will be noticed in that BIG house.
46***************
"Enjoy life, it's ungrateful not to." - Ronald Reagan
LOL Samantha
47To be perfectly honest, I'm not a fan of caviar. But that's the way the inlaws eat it. Bread, lots of butter, lots of Little Nemos.
48you are all welcome
49LMAO "lots of little Nemos"
the best caviar I ever had was at The Chart House in Jacksonville FL - I had it several times and it was always good. I haven't had it that good at other places, even at other Chart Houses. weird. I'm not a big fan of it either, but if it could always taste as good as it did there I'd probably be a bigger fan of it.
