Former first lady Barbara Bush was moved Saturday out of intensive care into a private room at The Methodist Hospital, where she continues to recover from heart surgery.
“She is still in good condition and in great spirits,” said hospital spokeswoman Gale Smith. “She’s been up and about, walking and eating, just being a great patient. She’s still going great.”
On Wednesday, doctors performed open heart surgery to replace Bush’s aortic valve. The procedure was scheduled after Bush, the 83-year-old wife of former President George H.W. Bush, experienced shortness of breath.
Smith said her medical team remains confident she will be able to go home late this week.
“Her medical team still is very happy with her progress, and obviously they are monitoring her day-by-day,” Smith said.
