My wife and i are having an argument (sort of). I've got the Christmas lights up on the outside of the house, and I want to start having them on at night. Yes I know that I am a bit of a nut around Christmas, but this is by far my most favorite time of the year. I'm in a performace company that does a huge variety show every Christmas, and once again it's going to be a great show (I'm also a featured dancer this year), my birthday is in early December, and of course, Christmas and our semi-annual family gathering. So my question to everyone is this: Is it too early to light up the lights?
sweatyBetty
I think since it's your FAVORITE holiday you should put up the lights! Personally for us my Dad doesn't put out the lights until after Thanksgiving.
1I said it's too early. But if you have Christmas spirit, I certainly don't want to dampen it. I really have to motivate myself just to put up a fake tree.
2Well good going Dave you got them up and are ready for that moment right after T-day. At 12:01 am on 11/28 flip that switch and then go change you avatar.
You are such the boy scout - always prepared.

How do you change your avitar?
I say go for it. Just tell your wife to think of it as celebrating Obama's election until after Thanksgiving and then they can be Christmas lights.
I do have to give my brother props. He is a good dancer and has danced the lead in both the Nutcracker and Sleeping Beauty.
4I said 'way too early' and that's only because my sister has already gotten hers up and is bugging me about putting mine up too. But since we're eating Thanksgiving at my house this year, it just seems like I'm not showing Thanksgiving the love it deserves if I go ahead with the Christmas decorations. So I'm holding out a little longer.
5UnDave, I adore Christmas and it is my favorite holiday of the year, too!!! I always enjoyed the weekend after Thanksgiving putting up the lights and trees and decorations, that has been our tradition for ages. So, loving that tradition so much, I would say you are early for me, but it sounds like you are so into it, that you deserve a "pass"! I say light those lights up at night, baby!!!
6UM SKB you MUSt supply photos of your brother performing. Does he wear a tutu or just antlers?

Thanks everyone! I'll probably end up deferring to my wife, but I may turn them on while she's at meetings and such...
8I will have to see if I can get Dave to post some. We were never allowed to take pictures during the performances. And actually, it's probably much more entertaining to leave it to your imagination.
9I would put them up or wait a week (I don't want you and your wife in to get into a small argument). I think people need to see something festive and pretty (considering the economy..it will be positive move. Nothing wrong with that.
). Christmas lights always make me smile.
10since i am in a bad mood today i say bah humbug poop on your lights.
11Okay Scrooge who trip your tiny tim today?

I voted too early but i LOVE christmas time, I usually wait until the day after thanksgiving to put up my stuff. However, I have already decided to break out the Christmas music, and my bf thinks I'm looney. So if you want to turn on the lights GO FOR IT!

14Brooke on my ipod I have a holiday folder and when blue or wanting to screw with those around me I play it. Great on a hot summer day.

I think it's a go for the lights. Maybe wait on the rest of the decorations until after Thanksgiving. lights are fun!
16I'm with mostly everyone here --- it is a tad too early.
But do what you like you're a grown man, after all!
And I wouldn't want to be the
of the group.
17"I think it's a go for the lights. Maybe wait on the rest of the decorations until after Thanksgiving. lights are fun!"
Does that mean I have to take down the tree?
18JK
They've been playing Christmas music on our local radio station since November 1st, my sister's family already has their tree up, and the stores have Christmas sales on. Jump to it!
19I think it's too early.
20How about you start the day before Thanksgiving?
The problem with that is I am involved in a Christmas variety show that has its opening night the Friday after Thanksgiving, and it runs the next three weeks, with 5 shows a week. Between that and my real work, I won't have time to get the lights up before the 21st. By that time what's the point?
21Are you really dancing? You will have to post video.
22Is it like this?
23Or more like this?
I retract my earlier statement about pooing on said lights.
Please put up your lights early, they make me glad that someone has the spirit.
24Sam - I too have a holiday folder on my ipod! It's filled with lots and lots of Bing Crosby. Not that i really need it, i'm usually singing the songs. hehe

Once I have the "House" up and lit, I'll make it my Avi. Fair enough?
30NO- toooooo small. Need big full color shots. This is Christmas Dave. Go big or stay home (in an undecorated house).

Sy - The dancing was/is traditional ballet. The first girl I partnered with is now a Minnesota Vikings cheerleader. That was a fun year, because she is a great dancer, and we were able to do a lot of great things. The other female leads had better personalities, but weren't as accomplished dancers, so we gelled, but weren't able to do as much as we would've liked. The "dancing" that I'll be doing this year will be a psuedo ballet. It's supposed to be comical, and it is. I'll be sure to post pictures when I have them.
32I'll supply big shots then. Anything else?
33Well Santa, I would like a stocking full of Obama coins, candy canes, and jewels. A set of flying reindeer and a pair of cleaning elves. And a sleigh ride through a snow covered Central Park with the guy of my choice.

Yes, can you come by my house and put my lights up?
35Ohh, I'll take some cleaning elves too!

Well, here's what I can give ya:
Stocking full of dirty clothes to be cleaned, candy canes, a swift kick in the family jewels, a pair of gloves to clean my house, and a ride around the neighborhood in my wagon, if you come to WI. Good enough?
38Ballet. Well well well. A whole new side of Dave is unfolding right before our eyes ladies.
39Sis, if you pay me enough, I'll be there.
40Dave how exactly did you convince your wife to marry you? Arrange marriage?

It is ENTIRELY too early! The day after Thanksgiving is as early as you want to get, otherwise you're going to get ridiculed by ME! (Not that that matters LOL)
I love that you're in a performance group! I want to join the one here too, but finding the time would be murder. And the bummer is they're doing Grease next summer! I was Rizzo in our high school production of it and would love to do it again!

It was funny. I asked her, and she said yes. OK, I was holding a gun at the time, and she was tied up, but that's not important.
Actually, the weekend we met was fantastic. The Service Group we were both involved in "Alpha Phi Omega" have big state conferences every spring. That year, my chapter hosted the event, and my wife's chapter stayed at my house (The girls slept upstairs, and the guys slept downstairs). We hit it off that first night, and goofed around the whole weekend. A couple weeks later, we went to another event in a different state, and new we were meant to be together. The weekend she graduated (a couple weeks after the las event) I asked her to marry me. When I told my sis I was getting married, she asked "Is she pregnant?" Talk about support.
43Dave that's sweet but I would have asked the same thing. 'Cause sweet talk is not your forte.

Not to anyone here. Why would I dabble in sweet talk and get myself in more trouble than I'm already in? I may be dumb, but I'm not stupid..

Sam and Dave! I loved reading everyone's comments.
47turn on them lights now --& make them all RED in honor of the RED states!
48Ha! I notice you left one detail out in your story brother of mine. You didn't mention your wonderful sister is also the one that told you about APO in the first place and if I hadn't, you probably wouldn't have met your wonderful wife.
But otherwise, after I congratulated him, I did have to ask that question.
When I was home at Christmas that year, he wasn't dating anyone. Then not hardly 3 months later he's calling to say he's engaged. It seemed a bit quick to me. But when I met her, I could
understand why Dave didn't wait to ask her to marry him. She's a wonderful lady.
49All your comments are wild on here!
I said it's too early. However, if it's what you want to do, then go for it! My mom and I usually break out the lights a couple days before Thanksgiving, but we don't turn them on until the day after.
As far as Dave being a dancer.... I also would like to see some video!! I danced for 6 years back in the junior high/high school days.
